Style Tips for Communicating Globally

Style tips are important in communication so that the message is clear and concise. Most global communication is via email.

Composing Business Communications

In the past, communication was written.  Now, most communication is electronic.  Electronic communication is done via email, vlog, or video conference.

Applying style tips is important so the message is:

  • clear
  • concise
  • complete

Email Messages

Many electronic messages will be shared by way of email. Even though email is an informal means of communication, business emails should be composed using the same proper writing technique that would be applied in formal communications. In addition to ensuring your message is courteous, concise, clear, and complete, you will need to proofread the message carefully and correct all errors prior to submission. Proofreading for Errors

When sending business correspondence, it is important to proofread for errors. Common errors in messages are listed below.

  • Incorrect grammar
  • Incorrect or missing punctuation
  • Incorrect capitalization
  • Transposed words
  • Missing or repeated words
  • Incorrect dates and time references
  • Incorrect spacing or placement of document parts

Prior to sending your business communication, check to determine if any of the common proofreading errors are discovered. If so, make the corrections immediately.
