PRE - Pre-Production Overview

Pre-Production

Every day our society is inundated with a cornucopia of media production whether it is 30 seconds, 3 minutes, or an hour, it still requires time and steps to produce. There are 3 stages in media production that will be covered in the next 3 modules, but this module will begin our journey through the stages with Pre-Production.

Of course, pre-production isn’t necessary if there is no financing established or an idea for a script (or script completed). In this stage of media production, you complete everything that needs to be completed prior to shooting. This could include but is not limited to the following:

  • Recruiting Film Crew
  • Casting
  • Location scouting
  • Prop and wardrobe identification and preparation
  • Special effects identification and preparation
  • Production schedule
  • Set construction
  • Script read-through with cast, director and other interested parties
  • Rehearsals
