APE - Preparing for the AP Exam Module Overview
Preparing for the AP Exam
Introduction
What are the four parts of the Exam?
1 MC section of 55 questions that takes 60 minutes. This section is 45% of the exam.
1 Essay section that consists of 3 essay questions that takes 120 minutes. This section is 55% of the exam.
The three essays are as follows: poetry, prose, and open-ended.
Through the course we have been focusing upon the parts of the AP Exam and you have been shown multiple techniques for answering the types of questions that you should experience on the AP English Literature Exam. We have explored poetry, and prose and hopefully you have made special notes with the specific applications to the AP Exam. Although taking a test is not the ultimate purpose of literature, the AP Literature Exam will test your ability to make thematic and philosophical connections as well as to show that you comprehend both the literal and figurative meanings of literature. The course has also emphasized that understanding how authors craft meaning is an important part of truly understanding and appreciating literature. Thematic applications and aesthetic appreciation are two of the highest levels of understanding literature, and the AP Exam will assess your ability to do both.
This module will focus upon reviewing the skills that you have already learned for each type of multiple-choice and writing that you will experience on the AP Exam. In addition, we will conclude with putting all of the pieces together in anticipation of the final AP Exam. It is important to remember that the exam is scored holistically on a 1-5 scale. You, as a student, (and your instructor) will never know how you did on any one section. Therefore, it is important to view taking the exam as a holistic experience and to engage in activities that will help you to work on the entire exam, rather than just individual questions and sections.
