Quad Sets & Comparison of Four Poems Assignment

Introduction

QuadComparison.png Quick! Think of four songs, movies, television shows that are related somehow.

Maybe they were all by the same composer. Maybe they all treated the same idea. Maybe they all were stylistically related in the way that they were composed. For music they might have even been the same song done by multiple artists—one just need watch any sporting event and see the wide array of “National Anthem” performances out there.

For this upcoming microlesson, you will be doing the same type of activity for poetry.

Quad Sets and Comparison of Four Poems

With the test preparation for paired poetry prompts you were asked to provide an interpretation of two poems that have already been paired for you. For the major assignment in this module you will not only provide comparisons and contrast between poems, but you will also select them.

This assignment will take you beyond the requirements of the AP Exam, and allow you to make the connections. View the video presentation below which will walk you through your requirements for this assignment.

Before beginning the video, download your chart document here. Links to an external site.

Here are the two charts referred to in the video and found in the document linked above:

Let's Review

Final Thoughts

This microlesson has presented you with the rigorous task of not only forming comparisons between poems, but also exploring potential sources for poetry and your selection of the poems themselves. In the next microlesson, you will build upon this knowledge as you begin to enter into the great conversation that literature can provide.
