Also by using these lenses you will start to shift from summary to analysis—by adopting a critical lens you are making a choice about a particular way to view a text. Your support will then be to justify the critical lens that you have selected, rather than to merely summarize the plot. As you work through the rest of the semester, remember that for any of the literature that you analyze, if you adopt a critical lens, you will be automatically thinking upon a higher level than if you are just telling what happens in the poem, prose selection, or longer work of literary merit.
