IAP - Introduction to AP Literature Module Overview
Introduction to AP Literature
Introduction
Right now athletes of all abilities are preparing for the next Olympics, Super Bowl, World Series, Stanley Cup, and NBA finals. Every year college athletes at all levels prepare for championships at all divisional levels. If you ask coaches in your high school about the state playoffs for their sport, they will at least have some goal or idea about what they want to accomplish for the upcoming season. Even a recreational 5K runner or golfer has an idea about an upcoming competition that she has. Amazingly with sport, the rules are pretty simple: swim, bike, run the fastest; score the most points by getting a ball in a goal; perform the most complicated moves in the most graceful fashion. Equally amazing, is the fact that most athletes start with the end in mind and a clear understanding of how to get to that end. For any sports activity there are rules of the activity, and clear scoring methods, and one of the first questions that any newbie to any competitive activity will ask is “how do I win?,” or at least “how do I score points?”
And this is the purpose of this module: to show you how to “win” on the AP English Literature Exam. If you consider that the AP Exam is the equivalent of a championship or big event in any competition, and that all of the exercises that you complete in the course are practice leading up to the “big game” on an early Wednesday in May, it will help your understanding of how to dramatically improve your analytical ability with English Literature.
In this module we will complete an overview of the AP English Literature Exam, and learn about how points are scored for each section. Once you have this understanding of how the English Literature “Championship” will be played, you will focus upon your own ability level and devise a specific AP English Literature plan that addresses your strengths and weaknesses. By recognizing the areas of the test that you might need extra focus upon, you will start to be able to see where you can gain more points and score higher.
